2021 Student Form Competition "Placed Top 10"

The piece I designed for the 2021 Form Student
Competition is a wall unit with a fold down table and pull-out chairs. The theme of this design challenge was to design for the new generation and this piece
embodies that by being compact, multifunctional, and having integrated technology and most importantly high-quality laminates from Formica. This wall unit is perfect for small space living because when it is not being used as a table it folds up into an attractive shelving unit. The incorporation of Formica’s beautiful and high-quality laminates not only make this piece look amazing, but the surfaces are easy to clean which helps reduce the spread of germs. The central design element of this piece is the Formica Dalmata Terrazzo Matrix laminate which transports one to the Tuscan countryside of Italy. With the addition of black, off white and burnt orange, it complements the
terrazzo and gives a subtle nod to the Memphis
Design Group. Small recessed magnetic clasps hold the table up when not in use and piano hinges help give a clean look while remaining functional. This table can be used for casual seating or as a workspace so
having a recessed power outlet with USB ports will help make the design fully tech integrated. The design of this piece is timeless because it will last well into the future and will be perfect for small space living which is the future of sustainable design for the new generation.
